The recent global pandemic reminded everyone how vital Intensive Care Units are for the health of society. They've saved countless lives, and continue to do so every day. Pacmed's mission is to build digital solutions to aid Intensive Care staff in making the tough decisions they face during every shift.

Our decision support software Pacmed Critical, aims to improve patient care by augmenting real time decision flows with artificial intelligence. It's an exciting time to join Pacmed. We are extending our flagship product Pacmed Critical which is already live at the Amsterdam UMC. On top of that, we are scaling our solutions across the Netherlands and planning for European expansion., We are looking for a Date Engineer to join our Pacmed Critical software team. You'll be pivotal to ensuring that and will be a vital part of our mission to transform healthcare.

As a Data Engineer at Pacmed you will work collaboratively with Cloud Engineers, Data Scientists, and other developers in your team to ensure that Pacmed's data pipelines efficiently process vast amounts of data. Data Engineers use technology like Python, SQL, and Spark to process and transfer raw data to a data warehouse filled with features. The cloud infrastructure to be used by Data Engineers is built by Cloud Engineers whilst Data Scientists use a combination of Python scripts, Jupyter notebooks and dedicated Azure tooling to develop Machine Learning models, and the developers build Pacmed's Cloud-hosted software product (Pacmed Critical) to be used by ICU physicians on a daily basis. As a Data Engineer you will play a role in productionizing Machine Learning models as well.

Pacmed also is a trusted partner for the academic world. As such we're the technical partner for a nation-wide initiative that aims to unlock the historical data of all ICU in the Netherlands, to be used by scientists. The goal of this initiative is to improve the quality of ICU care in general. The Data Engineer will play an important role in the efficient processing of these large amounts of data.

On a daily basis you will:
* Work in a dynamic, cross-functional team
* Contribute to the development, design and implementation of cloud-native ETL pipelines with associated infrastructure and algorithmic code required for the transformation of data in-line with the development of machine learning models
* Productionise Machine Learning models and improve the ML Ops around them
* Ensure quality of the data processing steps by implementing quality checks at important places in the processing pipelines.
* Set-up, maintain and further develop continuous build/ integration (CI/CD) infrastructure
* Design and develop back-end functionality for Pacmed's software solutions
* Interact with stakeholders, providing support and creating functional requirements specifications from business and user requirements

* You have a minimum of 2 years professional experience in a similar role
* Bachelor's degree minimum, Masters preferred (or equivalent professional experience)
* Proficiency in Python - experience with other object-oriented programming language is a bonus
* Experience with SQL and relational databases
* Experience with unit and integration testing
* An understanding of distributed data handling technology, such as Apache Spark
* Experience developing data pipelines in a production environment
* A fundamental understanding of API protocols, such as REST
* Experience working in a cloud environment. Azure experience is a bonus
* Experience working with Git in a collaborative team environment
* Experience with containerisation technologies, such as Docker
* Previous developing Machine Learning algorithms is an added bonus
* Fluent in written and spoken English. Fluency in Dutch is a plus, but not essential
